World Refugee Day falls on June 20th of every year. In 2023, all NGOs including COERR and Camp-based organizations coordinated in organizing World Refugee Day Event. Activities were aimed to commemorate refugees worldwide and loss of life caused by war. The event also focused on peace promotion and refugees’ good relationship.

   On this occasion COERR Field Offices in all temporary shelters supported the events, just like previous years.

   In Ban Mae Surin and Ban Mai Nai Soi Temporary Shelters, the world refugee day events were organized on 20 June 2023. In addition to the refugee commemorating moments, there were football competition and fish releasing ceremony, as symbol for life saving, freedom and peace. Fishes were provided by COERR Mae Hong Son Agriculture team. There were approximately 2,500 participants in Ban Mai Nai Soi and 700 participants in Ban Mae Surin Temporary Shelters.

   COERR Mae Sarieng participated in World Refugee Day celebration in Ban Mae Lama Luang and Ban Mae La Oon Temporary Shelters, in Mae Hong Son Province’s Sob Moei District during June 20-21, 2023. There were many activities such as Marathon racing, drawing competition, cultural performance, and sports competition that unify communities. There were around 1,300 participants in Ban Mae La Oon and 700 participants in Ban Mae Lama Luang Temporary Shelters.

   COERR Mae Sot supported the events in Ban Mae La Temporary Shelter in Tha Song Yang District and Ban Umpiem in Phop Phra District, Tak Province on June 20th. Varieties of activities were slogan design competition, short drama competition based on World Refugee Day Theme played by schools’ representatives; cultural performance participated by each of indigenous group of refugees residing in the Temporary Shelters. There were approximately 2,800 participants in Ban Mae La Temporary Shelter and 500 participants in Ban Umpiem Temporary shelter.

   COERR Kanchanaburi joined the World Refugee Day event organized on June 16, 2023 at Ban Tham Hin Temporary Shelter, with the participants of Government and Non-Government Sectors. There were variety of ceremonies such as prayers for protection to refugees and thanks to organizations that supported the humanitarian activities; various entertaining activities for World Refugee Day event such as drawing competition, songwriting and singing competition, etc. The event had approximately 300 participants.
